Your Labor Day Holiday

Here in the southeast, Hurricane Frances is big news. Friends in Florida are either boarding windows or leaving the area as the giant storm brings incredible wind and pounding rain. Here in Atlanta, there are no hotel or motel rooms available, according to our news stations. Be safe, everyone in its path.

If your Labor Day is in a calmer area, have a wonderful time as the last gasp of summer ends and all family life focuses around school once more.

The days are getting shorter and the nights cooler as eBay and net sales heat up again after the summer doldrums.

CommonSenseInternet Radio Show

I am happy to report that I am now the “Expert Auction Editor” for the CommonSenseInternet radio show. (Bows ... applause ... the cheers of thousands! :-)

If you haven't listened to this program at all, perhaps you should. The hosts are Chris Malta and his partner Rob Cowie. Chris is the owner of WorldWide Brands and has developed the Dropship Source Directory, the new Lightbulk Wholesale Directory and the Market Research Wizard, which is now a part of our live Auction Genius Course.

Rob is his partner and was our constant companion at the wild and crazy eBay Live! extravaganza in New Orleans this year. Rob is one of the originators of the famous Blair Witch Project.

What I like so much about WorldWide Brands and their products is that they have a full time research team which does nothing but talk with and screen legitimate product sources. As far as I know, there is no one else out there doing this.

The CommonSenseInternet radio show is free because you can listen right on your computer. It's at noon Eastern, 9AM Pacific on Mondays at:

I've been on the June 21 and August 30 shows and will be a fairly regular contributor from now on. It's fun!

Is The Dreaded Internet Sales Tax Here?

The American economy has floundered in the past few years, and one of the brightest spots (sometimes, it seems, the ONLY bright spot) has been Internet sales. In their often short-sighted and insatiable demand for more, more, more tax dollars, legislators seem to be serious about the dreaded Internet sales tax.

I recently wrote a blog entry on this subject:

http://www.auction-genius-course.com/blog/archives/2004/09/an_internet_sal.html#more

And, yes, if you sell on the Internet at all, you need to care. So, please read about this extremely important issue and contact decision makers while you can make a difference.

Of course, as was recently pointed out, enforcing such laws will be problematic, at best. A great example is a recent California law prohibiting anyone from taking a shower after 8 PM at night. Can't you just imagine The Shower Swat Squad crashing through the door and hauling away dripping citizens?

If internet sales take a big nosedive because of sales taxes, that will get the attention of legislators, too. But that's the least desirable scenario – after the fact repeal isn't fun.

Don't you wish our esteemed lawmakers would think through the consequences of their acts a little more thoroughly?
